A pellet stove can add atmosphere to an evening outdoors, but a roof over your patio does not automatically make the spot suitable. FireRocket outdoor pellet stoves must be used outdoors only, in accordance with the manual for the specific model. Use under a patio cover is only possible if that manual permits it and you meet all the requirements.
This guide helps you ask the right questions before buying. It does not replace assembly or safety instructions. Always use the manual for your own version. The dimensions and installation requirements of another model are no substitute for those instructions.
An open patio cover is not a conservatory
An open covered patio and a garden room that can be closed off are different types of space. Do not use the FireRocket in a conservatory or garden room with closed walls. Not even with a window open. Calling a space a veranda on a building plan does not, in itself, tell you whether it is suitable.
Look at the actual structure: the roof, side walls, screens and any sliding glass panels. If the walls are fully open, it can be used, provided you follow the placement rules. Never use the FireRocket indoors.
Measure more than just the stove's height
The total height of the stove is only one measurement. You also need to allow for the required clearance above and around the appliance. Include beams, roof edges, lights, awnings, furniture and plants in your assessment.
A higher roof is not the only requirement. The roofing material, ground surface and ventilation also matter. For wood, fabric or plastic, do not rely on a general rule of thumb found online: check the instructions for your model and your particular setting. Do not use a safety clearance specified for another brand or another FireRocket model.
Ventilation is needed throughout use
A pellet stove involves real combustion and hot components. Keep the required air supply and openings unobstructed. Do not lower screens or curtains to retain heat, and do not turn the area into an enclosed corner while the stove is burning.
Consider the surroundings too. Smoke must not be directed towards neighbours, open windows or ventilation openings. Do not use the stove in rain or unfavourable weather conditions, and follow the weather requirements in the manual.
Checklist for your chosen spot
- The spot is outdoors; any walls are fully open and you follow the placement rules.
- The model's manual permits this use.
- All required clearances remain unobstructed, including above the stove.
- The ground surface is level, stable and non-combustible.
- Children, pets and walkways stay outside the hot zone.
- You can remain present throughout use.
What if the stove does not fit under the roof?
Choose another suitable outdoor spot rather than reducing the safety clearance. A shorter model is not automatically the answer: it has its own installation requirements too. Only move a stove once the fire is out and all parts have cooled down completely.
