To light a FireRocket outdoor pellet stove, you need dry wood pellets and a suitable gas torch. Before use, check which parts are supplied with your model and which you need to buy separately. That way, you will not find yourself missing an essential item on your first evening outdoors.
This guide covers supplies and preparation, not one specific product generation. The contents of the box may vary by version. Always use your stove's manual and the operating instructions for your gas torch; this explanation does not replace a step-by-step lighting guide.
A torch head is not the same as a complete gas torch
A separate torch attachment consists of a burner head that requires a compatible gas cartridge. This is not the same as a complete, ready-to-use kit. If your product states that a torch head is included, check separately whether a gas cartridge is included too. Do not buy based solely on the words butane or gas canister: the connection and the permitted gas and cartridge type must be compatible with the torch.
Check your torch's instructions and product markings before buying a cartridge. Unsure about a version you have seen in a shop? Ask FireRocket to confirm compatibility first. Do not assume that two cartridges are interchangeable because they look alike.
Why use gas with a wood pellet stove?
The gas torch is used for lighting. After that, the FireRocket uses wood pellets as fuel. No mains electricity or connected gas cylinder is needed while it is burning. This distinction matters: burning without electricity does not mean you do not need a tool to light the stove.
The stove does not have automatic electric ignition or a thermostat that takes over operation for you. It is a manually operated fire appliance. You remain present throughout use and follow the model's instructions for both starting and ending a burn.
Have the right supplies ready
- A gas torch suitable for the lighting method specified for your model.
- The compatible gas cartridge or fuel specified for your torch, in accordance with its instructions.
- Dry wood pellets of the quality and size specified in your stove's manual.
- The manual for your exact FireRocket model and the torch's operating instructions.
Keep wood pellets dry, protected from moisture and in a well-ventilated storage area. Seal an opened bag securely. Keep fuel packaging and other combustible items away from the hot appliance. The fact that an accessory is included does not mean it can be connected or used without instructions.
Check the stove before first use
Check that all parts have been assembled according to the model's manual and are undamaged. The location must already be suitable before you begin lighting: outdoors, on a level, stable and non-combustible surface, with all required clearances.
Do not use the FireRocket in a conservatory or garden room with closed walls, not even with a window open. If the walls are fully open, it can be used, provided you follow the placement rules. Never use it indoors. Check the weather requirements too. An attractive setting in a lifestyle photo is not proof that your setup is suitable.
Do not copy a lighting trick from another model
The assembly sequence, ignition opening and operation may vary by version. Do not assume that a video or step-by-step guide for another FireRocket version or another brand also applies to your stove. Do not add liquid fuels as an alternative to the specified method either.
Also read why the right wood pellets matter and how to maintain the stove after use. You can find the models and their dimensions under FireRocket pellet stoves.
For refilling, ending a burn and maintenance, follow the instructions for your own model. Do not move or dismantle a hot appliance. Do you have questions about the right torch, the contents of the box or the manual? Contact us before use and include the model name or number.
